The World vision acting National Director Geoffrey Kativa has called on the residents of Soin to ensure the sustainability of projects under the sh.1 billion Soin development programme after the organization handed it over to the Elgeyo Marakwet county government.
Kativa said if the projects failed for any reasons, it would mean the money from the millions of well-wishers who donated funds towards the programme will have gone to waste.
Speaking in Soin during the handing over ceremony, the director said the only way the residents could show their appreciation to those who have contributed towards the projects was to ensure that they continued running and benefiting them as envisaged by the supporters.
He said the projects implemented focused mainly on education and health, and included construction of 22 ECD classes, provision of clean water to fight water borne diseases, increase of toilet coverage and construction of water projects.
Kativa said the programme which has been in existence for the last 15 years also saw the organization provide refrigerators at health facilities in the area for the storage of vaccines and also the introduction of nutritional programmes for children under 5 years.
Governor Wesley Rotich assured the residents that his government will ensure that the projects continue to run and called on residents to keep watch and ensure nothing negatively affects their efficient running.
The governor said he was part of the team that was involved in the project design and was proud to be the one receiving the program. “I am privileged to have been part of the team that was involved in the project design since the program was being initiated in my home area in Emsoo ward. So I am proud to be here 15 years later to celebrate its success,” he said.
