Charles Khacheso Washika, the Cooperative Bank of Kenya’s Director of ICT and Innovation, has floored five competitors to become the 2023 CIO of the Year, a prestigious title for tech professionals in Africa.
The CIO100 Awards program, run by dx5, the African digital transformation driver, honors companies and individuals that use IT creatively to deliver business value, whether through enhancing customer relations, enabling growth, developing a competitive edge, or digitally revolutionizing the industry.
This award to Washika comes at a time when he expertly guided the bank in implementing and migrating to the new Finacle core banking system that went live on Monday 12 June this year.
The Core Banking Implementation was multi-million dollar project that necessitated wide ranging system upgrades to support the Finacle – a system rated by Gartner as the foremost core banking system globally.
This migration was also in line with Co-op Bank’s significant investments in technology and a significant milestone in the bank’s journey towards a more advanced banking business model.
