The County Assembly of Meru has approved only three out of the ten-county executive nominees that were presented to the house for vetting by Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The approved nominees included Dickson Munene Nkanata (Public service, Legal Affairs, and Administration), Ithana Thuranira Joseph (Education, Science Culture, and ICT) as well as Monica Kaithiori Kathono (Finance and Economic planning).
Those rejected included Japhet Ndumba (Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development), Casty Kaimuri Micheni (Youth, Sports Gender and Social Development), Dr. George Gikunda Mungania (Health Services), Dr. Bishop Kiambi Atheru (Water Irrigation, Climate Change), Caroline Karea Kaberia (Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Veterinary Services), James Murungi Muthomi (Roads, Energy and Public Works) and former nominated MCA Esther Karimi Njeru (Trade, Cooperative, and Tourism).
Speaking while tabling a report by the appointment committee which was unanimously adopted by the county assembly members, Leader of Majority Evans Mawira said the nominees were rejected due to lack of experience in their respective fields, which was one of the key requirements.
The committee report further recommended that the Governor should replace the rejected nominees with other persons from the same sub-counties for the sake of regional balancing.
