DP Gachagua calls on development partners to support Kenyan government

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to development partners to work closely with the Government in exploring lasting solutions to recurrent famine in some parts of the country.

Mr Gachagua said the Government would work in collaboration with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and development partners in addressing challenges pertaining to famine in the country.

“As Government, we are committed to working closely with our development partners to attain lasting solution to perennial famine that has affected some parts of the country,” said Mr Gachagua.

Mr Gachagua who was speaking during the World Food Day in Loitoktok, Kajiado County, said his office will have an effective and reliable engagement on daily basis over the issue.

“The Government is open to engage with everyone on issues of famine with the intention of ensuring food security in our country,” said Mr Gachagua.

At the same time, the Deputy President, urged leaders elected on Azimio la Umoja One Kenya to work with the Government in addressing challenges facing Kenyans.

The Deputy President said  the country will only achieve development if leaders work closely with the Government irrespective of their political affiliations.

“We only have one Government now. Elections are over and as leaders it’s time we deliver,” he said.

He thanked  Governor Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado) for working with the Government in addressing challenges facing the people.

“There should be no unnecessary conflict between the county and national Government. Kenyans will lose because of our disunity,”he said.

Mr Ole Lenku said “More help is needed in Kajiado which has been hard hit by the global climatic change,”

 He said that only 20 percent of Kajiado residents have accessed  relief food supplies.

Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia said many counties have been had hit by drought, saying efforts were being done to contain the situation.

Other leaders present included Senator Samuel Seki(Kajiado),MPs George Sunkuiya(Kajiado West),Samuel Parashina(Kajiado South)Leah Sankare(Kajiado Mp)

The MPs  said they will work closely with the Government in fighting drought.

Meanwhile,  Mr Gachagua said the new Government will not tolerate extra judicial killings.
