Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has announced that the government is ready for the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of the President-Elect on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, which will be held at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani in Nairobi.

Speaking on behalf of the Assumption of the Office of the President Committee during the press briefing, Kibicho said that the committee has received around 20 confirmations from Presidents across Africa who will attend the ceremony.

He at the same time announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have put in place all the protocols associated with dignitaries visiting the country.

Kibicho stated that approximately 60, 000 Kenyans are expected to start flowing in at the Kasarani grounds for the ceremony as early as 7.00 am.

“The stadium will be open for the public to get in so that by 7.00 am all are seated as we wait for the arrival of VIPs as the program will start at 10.30 a. m,” said the PS.

Kibicho urged Kenyans to strictly observe time as the swearing-in of the President Elect must be done between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm as per the constitution.

On security matters, the PS said over 10,000 police officers shall maintain security at the stadium and the entire Nairobi County.

“We are satisfied, no doubt that we shall have a very colorful ceremony on Tuesday and we have given it all that it takes,” he said.

Kibicho also announced that gates 11 and 12 have been set aside for overflow space and the small business enterprises to do their businesses, adding that a committee has been set up to ensure that those conducting businesses at the stadium do it in an orderly manner.

Further, Kibicho assured that the traffic department has put in place measures that will see VIPs picked in a designated place while those with personal cars will be guided accordingly as per their car stickers.

The committee was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to facilitate the handing over process from himself to the incoming President.

The Assumption of Office Committee is also mandated to organize for security of the President Elect, as well as prepare the program and organize for the swearing in ceremony.
